#Breaking: a Freeze Warning has been issued for the northern half of Southeast Texas. Areas as close to Houston as Conroe could see temps hit or drop below 32°F tonight.

Breaking: #FreezeWarning (dark purple) has been issued for most of North Texas from 4am to 9am Monday. While late, it would not even crack the top 10 of latest freezes on record. Those are all in April.

Providence just destroyed the record books. 37.9 inches of snow, crushing the Blizzard of 78 by more than 9 inches. The largest storm in Rhode Island history and the highest snowfall ever recorded at an I-95 Northeast climate site. And it is still lightly snowing.

An interesting tidbit about how off-the-charts the winter storm of 2021 was in Texas: The HIGH temperature on Feb 15th was one degree COLDER than the RECORD LOW for the day: DFW only managed a high of 14°F. Absolutely insane.

OTD in 2021, Texas was gearing up for round two of the 2021 winter apocalypse. Dallas plunged to -2°F. Austin and San Antonio plunged into the mid single-digits and Houston was shivering at 13°F. More than 200 Texans died in the storm, 37 of those frozen to death in Houston alone

“If this winter storm were a hurricane, it would be a category 5.” Those were my words on Feb 13th, 2021 to my KHOU viewers that Sat night in Houston. 5 years ago, Houston (and the entire state of Texas) was getting ready to experience the worst winter storm in 100 years+.

Cuba 🇨🇺 has just recorded its lowest temperature on record this morning, with 0.0°C (32°F) at Indio Hatuey. This marks the first time in recorded history that the country has officially reached the freezing point.
