So grateful for the opportunity to present grand rounds at @childrenshospsa over a topic for which I feel a lot of passion. It was a wonderful and receptive group and I am grateful for the new connections!

@acweyand - Log those hours of continuing family education (ie learning how to prioritize family) before audits - go to a CFE conference (a real vacation with family where I don’t work)

I have my annual review coming up at work and need to set goals for the coming year. So far I have: -improve work life balance -get rid of tasks that don’t align with my goals -say no more (see above) What goals are you setting to make your life better?

@ShreyaTrivediMD Culture change that supports, but does not force, academia. Extra clinical support so I am not burdened with notes when I go home. Flexible time scheduling so I can request off pre-k graduation and that Saturday soccer game. Time for signout amenable to spending morning with kids

I noticed myself feeling anger and frustration. Agitated by inefficiency. I had to make that meeting after PICU rounds! 7/

@BlakeNicholsMD Im really proud of you for this insight - and for sharing it. The topic of balance and preservation came up a lot during a conference this week - we must find ways to set boundaries and normalize out of work priorities. You’re great - glad you’re feeling back to your best self

Academia is so important and I respect it. As for me, At my new job, I have regained my love for caring for critically ill children. I am learning to prioritize my family the right way. I feel like I’ve been given my life back. I am in charge of my life. /end

I loved my job, but it had become my life. When I found academia taking more and more from my life where I had to extract time from my family, I sought for change. Academia refused to allow me my non clinical time. So I sought a different opportunity. 9/

More opportunity led to more work. Hours per day became more hours per day. That clinical time bought out, I guess it was just special on paper. I found myself working more clinical and academic time. 10pm meetings, I wouldn’t miss them! 6/
