Pleased to announce that my PhD thesis work in @Blake_Hill_Lab on structural mechanisms governing vertebrate FIS1 function is finally out in JBC. sciencedirect.com/science/articl… 🧵a thread

Ultimately, our data support a direct Fis1-Drp1 interaction, in which the Fis1 arm may (via a kinetic effect) occlude the binding site. This interaction promotes mitochondrial fission and suggests the yeast and human proteins are more similar than previously thought. (10/10)

These results suggest reciprocal interactions between the Fis1 arm and conserved surface are important for Drp1 recruitment and mitochondrial fission. (9/10)
