@shitTOGv2 @VenturCommunist for Benjamin. Genuinely a disgusting line of argumentation from Rockhill to attempt and claim Benjamin as his intellectual predecessor instead of being tied to the critical theory of the Frankfurt School - despite their funding of Benjamin’s study in his Arcades Project.

@shitTOGv2 @VenturCommunist This is one of the worst sections. Rockhill posits that Adorno and Horky leave Benjamin to die because “he was becoming more radical in contrast to Adorno” but Adorno was working with multiple embassies to try and grant a way for Benjamin to escape, with Hork even getting a visa

does Rockhill paint with a wide brush? yes. does this review understate the sheer nefariousness of (in particular) Adorno and Horkheimer? also, yes. what needs to be done for western academics to realize that being paid by the CIA is in fact a VERY bad thing.

@crackerrapist1c I agree with this somewhat - I think mestizaje is obviously racially charged and works to erase Black identity, but I’m not sure how much it is a redecoration of blanqueamiento when it also desires, especially, the Indigenizing of whiteness

@Blake_ramz in fact such ideas are just redecorations of “blanqueamiento” through the means of mestizaje.

this scarcely debases AP, merely positing the proletariat, regardless of social identity, ought to be emancipated, fine in isolation, but then claims seizing the means of production is the way, if "collectivisation" cures social death, I’m at a loss as to what more can be said.

@GoofyWise Marx failed to consider racial emancipation… wait a second…

@crackerrapist1c constructed upon an ontological anti-Blackness, is rather constructed upon a product of the Enlightenment and “modernity” of whiteness and anti-anything not white. Wilderson’s treatment of Indigenous subjects is a huge reason I dislike his writings tbh.

@crackerrapist1c Honestly, I am not well studied enough regarding racial attitudes in Asia and the Middle East to suggest the global attitude of the primacy of anti-Blackness. I do agree that Indigeneity can be detrimental alongside Blackness, but I posit that the world, instead of being

@crackerrapist1c Anti-Blackness is persistent yes. This is different than the claim afropessimists make. There is also persistent anti-Asianness and anti-Indigeneity within Latin America. And I do agree with Trujillo. If there’s one place where afropessimists really get right, it’s the DR.

@Blake_ramz you are confusing me man...... so is anti-blackness persistent within Latin America, yes or no? and even then, the Dominican Republic and this idea of blending races doesn't negate anti-blackness, look how anti-blackness in the DR was under Rafael Trujillo.

@crackerrapist1c incoming Black immigrants from the Caribbean as they positioned labor as the most important thing (coming from Putnam’s Radical Moves) or how Chile viewed Indigeneity as more of a detriment than Blackness in Peruvian society.

@crackerrapist1c of society. I think, though, this especially falls apart in Latin America, when nations sought to incorporate Black people in their civic body to portray a protectionist image, which is why you get weird things like Venezuela including Black people in their nation to reject

@crackerrapist1c differently comparatively to other racism, but, at least in my research, which is post-independence Peru, Black people can become part of society through participation in artisan guilds in Lima especially while Indigenous people have largely “tainted” the Peruvian race

@crackerrapist1c I do agree with this; however, it is not merely the text but the philosophical operation for the construction of mestizaje in Mexico (and a lot of Latin America) today. I do think afropessimism provides an intriguing framework in looking how anti-Blackness is constructed

@crackerrapist1c The core of the public sphere within republican society is involvement in the military/militia (see Sabato’s Republics of the New World and Habermas’ musings on constitutional patriotism), which Black people are not just a part of, but are overrepresented because of forced

@crackerrapist1c Please just read the text. It’s like maybe 50 pages. You should not adopt a critical lens to view the world that makes wide sweeping ontological claims if you don’t know about the world you’re making a claim for.

@crackerrapist1c Do you believe that Indigenous, white, and Asian people also believe in a state of objectivity? Because Vasconcelos views them in the same light as being necessary for the creation of the Cosmic Race (although, I do agree with claims that there is a difference at the way he looks

@crackerrapist1c the claim of Black people live in objectivity within current society, not being human and the transatlantic slave trade killed the social self. For work on this in Brazil even during the colonial era which massively complicates this, I once again recommend
