As a monster myself, I'm going to go "ermm ackshully" and go on a probably pretentious monologue Kong is a monster. So too is the Hulk. That only a bad thing if you use but one, narrow definition of monster. That of a cruel, wicked, and abnormal being driven by malevolent appetites and instincts. Monsters can be evil beings, but they are not exclusively that. There is much nuance. Monsters can be heroes and guardians. They can have their own agency and inner personal lives/characters. One of the words that monster derives from is "monstrum" which were divine omens, portents, or reminders often in the form of strange or deformed beasts. A living sign that the normal way of things may or will change. A living symbol to remind mortals that there are limits to their understanding. To ignore, misinterpret, or rebuke at their own peril. Both Kong and the Hulk fit the definition I outlined. First, let's start with MV Kong. When we first see Kong he's attacking the Sky Devils and the Monarch research team. He does so because these humans were dropping seismic charges onto Skull Island to conduct research on this strange new land. While they were not seeking to cause destruction...they didn't realize what they were doing was attracting the Skullcrawlers. Heck, it risked attracting the even bigger, more calamitous Skull Devils. Creatures that can end all life on Skull Island. Kong responds in according to his role as Skull Island's ruler and guardian. His vicious attack is a tragic but necessary message to these new humans: DO NOT DISTURB. Unfortunately this message was not received well by one Colonel Packard. Who saw Kong's brutality as senseless attack on the men he fought alongside with. He wants vengeance. (As an aside and not talked about enough, IMHO is why Packard goes off the deep end like he does. Prior to the incident on Skull Island, he and his men served in the Vietnam War. They recieved many awards and medals from their service. Yet despite that, they were withdrawn and were later to be discharged. Besides suffering from possible PTSD, Packard held deep down that they abandoned the conflict. That and his men fought, bled, and died for nothing. He then wrongly yet understandably paints and projects that resentment onto Kong. ) In fact, much of the Monsterverse is about monsters as divine omens. Warnings that despite humanity's dominion on Earth, there still exists vast, powerful, and intelligent beings. The calamitous folly of trying to subdue, control, or destroy these titans, these old gods. The dangers of not understanding their broader purpose and role in the world. As for The Hulk, he too is a monster. He is a portent of the unforeseen consequences of Gamma Radiation. That there exists another, rare level and dimensionality to it's existence. It power to mutate and transform in completely unexpected ways. To create monsters. The Hulk is the embodiment of that potential. Yet it also showcases that the power is not inherently evil. While The Hulk primarily wants to left alone, wrongly persecuted, he has on multiple occasions proven to be a hero. He saves and protects innocent lives several times. As a monster, he is reminder that not all that is fearsome and strange is malevolent. It can be benign and heroic. Afterall, normalcy and oddity do not equate to good and evil. You can find examples of both in the mundane and the strange. I think monster is important title and role. I think removing it from the likes of Kong or The Hulk removes an important aspect of their characters. Anyways, that just my long-winded, hopefully coherent 2 cents on the matter. tl;dr - IMHO, I believe term monster has more nuance and depth to it.

Godzilla is a monster. Mothra is a monster. Rodan is a monster. King Ghidorah is a monster. King Kong is not a monster. He is in fact similar to the classic Hulk. Just wants to be left alone, but we're frightened by his existence, and we want to control him and exploit him. Then when he doesn't like that and gets angry, now all of a sudden it's his fault and he's a monster. He'd live his whole life on his island and die in peace if we left him there.

Your dark lord apologies for not getting his schedule out today. He is still recovering from his less than stellar day. Still figuring out what I want to stream this week. Also have a lot of shorts to make. Get back into the grind. However, to make up for it I will be doing an earlier, Darksiders 2 stream tomorrow around 12:30pm CST.

Finally had time to sort through 500+ bee pictures from my PhaseCon/NatParks. I feel awkward posting these types of bee pics w/o some story, so I've decided to compile everything as a single long thread. Hopefully helps Shiina while stuck in the deadline mines. #shiillustration
