@rnewton7777 Understandable. Grew up in NY, but left for FL 22 yrs ago. Wasn't easy leaving family & friends (or the pizza!), but it was the right decision for me. I can still remember escaping the city and state taxes. Throw in a cost of living decrease and it's been amazing.

@rnewton7777 Guessing the house is paid off, in which case, understandable (and congrats!). But there must be some sort of FIRE principle that aligns with "avoid CA's theft-by-taxation at all costs."

@rnewton7777 If I'm not mistaken, I *think* you're in CA? CA & NJ are the only states that tax HSAs in that manner. Don't know what the family considerations are, but any thought of moving out of CA now that you're retired? Moving to FL alone would be a huge savings.
