Reminds me of Oro in Ikorodu. During Oro, restrictions are placed on women’s movement (mostly overnight). It is male-only ritual where the presence of women is considered taboo. Never went out but we grew up hearing that really terrible things were done to any woman caught outside during the festival (maybe real, maybe folklore). One Monday morning in 2023, I was stuck in Ikorodu cause they were carrying Oro in garage😭, during the day. I didn’t hear about it in time, I’d have left a day before. Got to garage and all the men there were advising me to better run back immediately, that Oro is in front! Imagine my mail to HR 😭. “I can’t come to work this morning, masquerades are outside” 😭. I no even think say she go believe me 😭 Luckily, she uses Twitter and said she saw the news 🥲

Ladies, you can say No to a relationship when it no longer looks like what you envisioned. Remember, whatever you tolerate today, you’ll tolerate x100 tomorrow. It’s not only men who have the benefit of choosing, you do too.

Everyone should have a decent modicum of discerning intelligence to know the difference between a program one is qualified to speak in and a program where one is not. No matter how you want to view this, this is not good at all. It is weird, it is cringe, it is all shades of wrong. The organizers obviously prioritized clout and virality over discussing actual matters of substance. If you notice, the guy ended up talking more about his skit than answering the question asked. There is a reason why we don't invite skit-makers who cosplay as lawyers to speak on serious matters at NBA AGMs (despite the fact that some of them have a background in law). This is because they have NO experience of life as a practicing lawyer. A man remains a man, even if he has an OSCAR award for cosplaying women in skits. When it comes to talking about the struggles women face at a conference of women, only a woman is fit enough to wear those shoes. If we don't see women speaking at men's conferences, this should not be seen as normal either.
