Trump says he’s talking to people in Iran. Says the war is over and the Iranians have him a “gift.” The Iranians say no such talks have happened. Other reports say boots on the ground this weekend. Trump gotta be telling the truth m, right?

President Trump this morning declares "We have already destroyed 100% of Iran’s Military capability," so I guess its time (again) to start popping corks to celebrate the war's victorious conclusion! Wait, what...? He again tries to convince us the Strait will soon be open, this time by war ships coming from a diverse set of nations to force the matter. "Hopefully," he wrote, "China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and others" will come to shoulder the military risk of forcing the Strait open. Uh... And if "100% of Iran's military capacity" has been destroyed, remind me (and all those other nations) why *our* navy isn't already patrolling a now safe Straits to ensure safety of the flow of oil? The answer is painfully obvious, as was demonstrated again in Israel and at our 5th Fleet HQ in Bahrain last night, Iranian missiles and drones continue to penetrate our collective air defenses and strike home. Thus, the Strait is NOT open and won't be for the foreseeable future. Iranian IRGC Gen. Rezaei last night declared that they would not accept a ceasefire until the U.S. and Israel paid reparations and an international coalition guaranteed their future security. Iran knows full well those aren't even theoretically possible outcomes at present, and won't for a very long time. He is likely signaling that not only is Iran not cowed by the genuine military pain we're inflicting on them, they are confident they can ride this out for a considerable amount of time. They see that ticking clock to Trump's most important event, the U.S. midterm elections, and they are watching that rise in oil continue to fly north, realizing that is putting more pressure on the Americans and Europeans than any bombs, missiles, or drones Iran may fire. All they have to do is endure under the bombardment, and remain viable militarily to continue some sustained rate of missile and drone fire - and keep that Strait closed - and time will build pressure on the U.S. to seek a negotiated settlement on terms more amendable to Iran. That is the trap we have set for ourselves by launching this foolish, ill-conceived, war of choice. @pati_marins64 @barnes_law US has clearly run out of meaningful targets to strike so the only option is to “bomb the hell” out of Iran’s shoreline. In a war of attrition, Iran could not have asked for a better strategy by their enemy.

@CurtisScoon Correct , the original plan was to foment mass civil unrest and then launch airstrikes and use to protestors to destabilize the country, that was attempted in late December and failed. This operation seems rushed and not well planned.

I think the Houthis are more or less a nuisance like Somali pirates but better armed. Iran will end up like Syria, Iraq and Lebanon with different ethnic groups and religious sects controlling different parts of the country. Total capitulation is not the goal of modern warfare. Destabilization is.

I don’t think you can underrate what the assassination attempts did to Trump. He’s not pushing problems into the future, he’s trying to solve all of them now. On all fronts. It’s remarkable. Many of Trump’s biggest critics today will have grandkids who visit statues of him.
