Giving is not a subtraction. It’s intentional multiplication. That’s the #GiveToGain message this International Women’s Day. And I’ve never understood it more viscerally than I do right now. This picture was taken in the parking lot, while I fed my infant in the car, on a recent work trip abroad, on a full day of back-to-back meetings. I shared it because raw images of our realities, are rare to see on social media, especially on days like this…the irony of that is a conversation for another day. Every woman who shows up whole, messy, lactating, brilliant, and unapologetic; multiplies what’s possible for the woman watching. Every time we refuse to shrink or sequence ourselves out of ambition, we give something that no budget line or mentorship program can replicate: proof. So this IWD, I’m not just giving time or visibility to women’s advancement; though those matter deeply. I’m giving the full, ‘unedited picture’. I’m giving by refusing to perform a sanitized version of professional womanhood. I’m giving a raw visual of how millions of women before me, and right now are “making it work.” Like them, I’m giving by refusing to choose between motherhood and my ambition. What are you giving? Single, Married, Divorced, Widowed, and 'Complicated' I celebrate the women who became Executive Directors in their 20s as well as the ones who climbed the same ladder in their 50s. I celebrate every woman who goes through premenstrual, menstrual, and post-menstrual cramps and the only time they are free from pain in a month is ONE WEEK. Yet, you show up EVERY DAY! I celebrate every woman currently 'stuck' with a toddler that somehow hinders them from pursuing their dreams, GOODNEWS baby! YOUR DREAMS ARE VALID! KEEP THEM ALIVE. I celebrate every woman who have been abused by people they trusted. You pulled yourself from a dark place and kept showing up for everyone. You are my REAL MVP! To EVERY SINGLE MOTHER out there, single by choice or single by the death of a partner, There is always a war between spending more time with the children and going out there to work and provide for them. My final year project at under grad was titled: "ANALYSIS OF SECURITY CONTROLS OF MAJOR CLOUD SERVICE PROVIDERS: A CASE STUDY OF AMAZON WEB SERVICES, MICROSOFT AZURE & GOOGLE CLOUD PLATFORM" Yes, quite a mouthful.Honestly, the project didn't reflect my best work. I was just hiding behind the bogus title. 😁 I had already started working in cybersecurity and was travelling often, so balancing academics was tough. Fortunately, I had very good grades in my early days, so I had enough leverage to still finish well. Long story short: my project supervisor gave me a 'D'. I took it in good faith, after all, 'D' can also stand for Distinction, right? 😑 Fast forward to today. While preparing for the CCSP, going through the CBK, watching videos, and doing some practice questions,I had a moment of clarity. Infrastructure evolves. Delivery models change. AI accelerates everything. But the foundational principles of cloud computing and cloud security remain constant. ..and also why I got the 'D' and how much I’ve grown since. I guess this certification counts as restitution for my 'D'. I might just call my supervisor and confirm.
