Is Geese an industry plant, four talented private school kids, or just a good band? @kieranpressreyn wades into the debate that has the internet honking
@Dontigga Miles Davis was musically beyond them all, but also they’re each in their own categories of genius and excellence. Nothing to gain by this attempt other than being wrong.
Prince vs Miles Davis: Davis is methodologically more innovative but he does one thing
Prince vs Stevie: Prince's vocal range is higher, his guitar skills and stevie cant so he cant dance
Prince vs Jimi: Hendrix has two great projects he didnt have enough time
Started The Wire from scratch again last night. Managed three episodes in one sitting
I still say that pound for pound it’s the greatest drama series of all time, just edging out Breaking Bad and The Sopranos
Any other suggestions for one of the top spots?
Once more, on Duke Ellington's birthday: composer, bandleader, communicator, painter in sound, he was also one of the greatest of pianists, and Money Jungle gets my vote for best jazz album ever—the one most like a Beethoven late quartet, of inexhaustible depth and mystery.

@MitchTherieau@elmer212240 Ohhh yes, I agree, his guitar work is perfection on all those. I didn’t know his name, I thought you meant the producer. Yes he’s incredible. And those albums are all important to me. Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is amazing.
@BlindBoy2020@elmer212240 Pettibone played with her from World Without Tears thru the early 2010s. I think he was the perfect foil for her songs, punctuating their koan like repetition with blasts of danger
@BlindBoy2020@elmer212240 If you read the next reply you’ll find I thought this was a reply to my other post about Westerberg. For sure Merritt does not rank with those other three even distantly
@MitchTherieau@elmer212240 More as a singer/interpreter?! What! Your lack of ball knowledge is showing. That is a really bad opinion sir. Painfully bad.
@elmer212240 I’d say he clears the first two (I love Lucinda but more as a singer/interpreter than a songwriter) but hard to compare their work. All 4 of them have produced some serious cringe over the years too, and I think that’s beautiful
Got a room in Pilsen for an upcoming conference in Chicago, figuring it would be a straight shot to the downtown convention center.
Serves my dumb ass right.
