The copium in the AI virtual photography scene is wild..people rushing to justify the use of AI. Have you ever noticed that in straight up VP you can see who's got some talent and who's a bit fried or isn't all that artistic? You can see the exceptional too. Yet weirdly anyone, your friend that's never done VP/Art or your dog, your guinea pig can load in any ref pic to AI or a text prompt and suddenly produce glossy finished looking images, and what's even stranger if multiple plp do it they all look really really similar and super pro, yet somehow soulless and generic.
Most of it to me looks like rly cringe catalogue models that have probs been scraped from generic modelling articles. Can't put my finger on it exactly but I personally don't like it and it doesn't reflect the vibe of video games for me.
You know how GTA 6 looks realistic but somehow has an art style which isn't photographic pure realism? Art style intact..
Virtual photography doesn't need defining by self appointed experts, it is what it is.. game captures and using a few mods or a photo editing suite to improve or stylise is absolutely nothing close to the AI services that exist today. There will always be purists who are extremely cynical but that's of no concern to anyone rly and there was never a huge backlash or rejection of editing a pic a whimper perhaps. AI on the other hand the prompt tools now are insane and shouldn't be compared to any tool ever in existence with a straight face. They are WAY beyond a tool they are fully automated.. and you know and I know and your pet dog or cat knows he or she talented or untalented can produce the same images as each other.. glossy super realistic ones, without effort within minutes.
That's what I feel is the bottom line and maaaybe why it's being rejected or simply preference based ignored. Why are AI users so feverish to try and tell us to love their "work" or make us understand it's real "art". Is it though? I didn't even realise it was a competition.. although I bet I cud beat u in a drawing contest during a power cut 🌚🌝 #virtualphotography #VPCommunity #VP
Below, an example imo of a gross looking AI-ism of my GTA char. Took zero effort or time to transform a pretty good VP shot into this monstrosity.
