Hey all, jumping in here. The way we engaged with this post isn't the quality we expect of ourselves or each other at Blizzard. Customer Service is here to offer clarification and guidance, we want to make our policies clear, and we want you all to feel comfortable reaching out to us. Our behavior policies are important and are regularly evaluated to help ensure our games are great places to be for as many people as possible. To be clear, cursing is not blanket punished within our games: context matters, and in this case, the context warranted upholding the action. @saerwyng3065 Yes, I am aware of the escalation. The response you received was the results of that escalation. If a mistake is found the penalty is overturned, if not, it is upheld and a simple message stating that is sent. Once reviewed there is usually no more that can be done, sorry. ~V

@BlizzardCS ...double-check if the specialized team actually logged a manual audit, or if it was just closed by standard customer support queue automation? I am a legitimate new player and just want to make sure the technical logs were actually verified.

It really isn't. The language in the article allows for leeway, yes, but "because someone is offended" isn't the criteria. The language and subject matter used generally needed to be objectively inappropriate and/or toxic. You can usually find those who will find specific content inappropriate & others who will not, but we judge by general standards of behavior. ~V

@BlizzardCS What you fail to recognise is that the vagueness of the TOS means it’s actually completely up to each CS representative how their interpret it. "Language that could be offensive to others" literally means nothing. By that definition ANYTHING could be bannable. It’s all up to you

@OHeydoods No, it is not. We do not set policies and procedures. It is something that is discussed on all levels all the time. That is why constructive feedback is important and directed to the correct place. ~V

@BlizzardCS Team 4 says "we would love to change the TOS and EULA but we can’t it decided by higher ups at Blizzard Blizzard CS says CS isn’t responsible for creating the Code of Conduct But you CAN change how you enforce it. It’s completely within your power to not ban people for swearing

@danversio An account isn't closed immediately, they are set up to provide several warnings before more severe action is taken. Game Content and player generated content is treated differently because it is different and governed by entirely different standards. Sorry. ~V

@BlizzardCS this doesn't justify having players accounts permanently banned for using the same type of communication that your own characters use in your game, it is objectively just having double standards

We cannot. CS isn't responsible for creating the Code of Conduct, Development is. The enforcement of the Code of Conduct is a directive given to CS. If you would like to see a change to our policies, it is best to submit feedback on our Forums (in a way that adheres to our Forum Code of Conduct). ~V

@BlizzardCS @danversio Yea, the point is that your Code of Conduct sucks and doesn’t align with what neither the playerbase OR the developers think. It’s literally only Blizzard CS who thinks this Code of Conduct is not garbage. Change it.

@danversio In-game content is governed by the ESRB/PEGI, which limits the type and amount of content allowed in order to maintain a specific rating, such as T for Teen. Player behavior is governed by our Code of Conduct. ~V

@Nobrain1414 That will be sufficient. When you report someone, what they said will be linked to your ticket. A GM should be able to go from there. ^JH

@BlizzardCS I'm not but now I have no proof of what he said as I just used the in game report feature and it auto ignored and deleted the messages

@BlizzardCS Yes I did report them there is not a ticket number on it I just reported and I used the in game report and now he has been ignored

@Nobrain1414 If you're being threatened in game, your best option is to contact the police, especially since they know details about you. As for in-game, place them on ignore, and open a ticket. Have you done that yet? If so, what is the ticket number? ^JH

@BlizzardCS I have someone threatening me just whispered me my address and where my wife works I cannot wait for a bot to handle this

We also have a code of conduct that every player of our games agrees to. Part of that is refraining from profanity. Freedom of Speech is between the US Govt. and it's citizens. Not between a private company and their customers. No, you aren't allowed to curse in our games. Do so, get reported, there are consequences. ^PJ

@BlizzardCS @ayyyyluhmao So much for freedom of speech. So much for having filters that player can use to prevent them from seeing such profanity. So much for spending 12.99 a month when you can easily cancel and let them lose money.
