But as a black male studies scholar, I’ve been blocked by a “decolonial” theory conference on counterinsurgency and told that phallicism doesn’t apply to Gaza. But what else explains this sex specific approach to targeting? Cause intersectionality can’t…
Nicola Perugini@PeruginiNic

One of the arguments made by genocide deniers is that “there was no chain of command” (that the destruction of Gaza’s Palestinians as a group is merely the result of isolated incidents). In fact, there are openly genocidal protocols within the Israeli military.

Interesting article. The Black femicide argument has reached its logical conclusion: calling for more criminal laws against Black men to protect their women from them. Very colonial logic. But yet we are expected to believe this is an insurgent tradition. This is a Man’s World: Misogynoir, The Black Manosphere, and the Making of Black Femicide berkeleyjournal.org/2025/06/11/thi…

Very similar culture in Black Studies. You can’t even start talking about machine learning or statistics because everyone is a monolingual psychoanalytic theorist and literary critic. Even pointing out basic population level empirical patterns is seen as “violent abstraction.” I’ll never forget a black studies professor at a major HBCU said black scholars don’t even need to debate because it’s Eurocentric. Everything comes down to ideology.

What explains the deep correspondence between Black feminist thought and how race scientists thought about African men in the 18th and 19th centuries? How is it that the same tropes that justified slavery in the 1770s find themselves accepted as common sense when articulated by Black women writers by the 1970s? One of the most influential and early black feminists argued in 1975 that Black women were slaves of slaves to Black men in the home; that decolonization in Africa didn't help African women, and Afro-America has similar tendencies towards male supremacy due to a shared history in Africa of treating women as "beasts of burden" When enlightenment humanists and philosophers like Christoph Meiners wanted to justify the enslavement of Africans, he pointed to the sexual immorality of African men and their brutal treatment of women as proof that slavery was beneficial. He, like Beale, argued that even under slavery, Black men exercised domestic tyranny over their wives. He says that Black men treat Black women more cruelly than the Spanish Inquisition.

I'm thrilled to share that my new paper, "Notes from Inside the Killing Machine: On Racism, Non-Being, and (Counter-Insurgency) Warfare," has just been published open access in Philosophy and Global Affairs. The paper argues that to truly understand racism — its lethality, its adaptability, its reach from chattel slavery to modern-day predictive policing — we need to understand it as counterinsurgency warfare. Drawing on Leonard Harris's brilliant "necro-being" thesis and synthesizing it with Social Dominance Theory, the insights of the field of Black Male Studies, and the doctrinal history of COIN, I build a philosophical framework that shows how Western states have managed, repressed, and waged war against racialized populations using the same fundamental logic — from the colonial era to the present day. The data bears this out: from the gendered patterns of repression characteristic of the chattel slave system, to COINTELPRO's targeting of Black men, to drone strike casualty data, to US incarceration rates — the killing machine has a consistent logic, and this paper identifies it. This is the work I believe the field of Black philosophy needs. I hope it sparks a serious conversation. pdcnet.org/pdc/bvdb.nsf/p…

After the 1992 LA Uprising, Ray L. Levasseur, political prisoner & leader of the UFF, compared it to the Intifada. "Both defy overwhelmingly superior police/military forces & constitute dispossessed nations...at the heart of their struggles is the right to nat'l identity & land."

@swartgevaar1 Yup. Once you realize how racist these humanist “sciences” were, you see why black thinkers like du Bois and Kelly Miller emphasized empiricism and science to debunk the sociological and ethnological theories of the day.

It’s so fascinating to me the numbness black people have toward the selective killing of their men. It’s not divisive to point out the vulnerability queer black folks have to HIV relative to other heterosexual black people; Or to point out black women’s higher rates of breast cancer; but the evidence that black men are killed by the state at greater levels than black women and queer ppl shouldn’t be engaged and is divisive…
