My Three Days Career as a Polymarket Trader. The Highs, the Lows, and the Knows.
My Polymarket career has come to an abrupt end before it even really took off.On January 5, three days ago, I deposited $10 into my Polymarket account and started trading the 15-minute Bitcoin market. It seemed rather easy at first, but I soon noticed the Bitcoin market had serious liquidity problems. Several times I placed an order and it simply would not fill.
Then I moved to the Solana market, still the 15-minute bins. Solana filled much better. I made consistent profits. Over three days, I withdrew a total of $70 from that initial $10 deposit. Unfortunately, I blew the remaining $40 balance on one last-minute swing I did not see coming.
In the end, I sit among the top 120k on the all-time leaderboard by profit, with $3.6k in volume generated from that $10 start, placing me in the top 800k by volume.
Considering I withdrew seven times what I deposited, I think I can say a thing or two. Most users lose money on Polymarket. If you make even $1 net profit, you are already ahead of the majority.
The lessons are simple:
Stick to a single market. I only traded two: the Bitcoin 15-minute and the Solana 15-minute. I touched the Stranger Things market twice, but only with $2 each time, purely on a good feeling.
Use limit orders. Really. In highly volatile markets, always use limit orders to buy and sell. Market orders can be dangerous. It's common to intend one price and get filled at another. Limit orders eliminate that risk.
Don’t go all in. I followed this rule most of the time. The few times I bent it, I paid heavily, though I luckily avoided getting completely wrecked. Never put all your capital into a single trade. You will run out of money long before Polymarket runs out of markets.
Do not wait for markets to resolve. If you are seeing a good amount of green, sell. My typical trade was buying at 80 cents and selling at 90, locking in just over 10%. It does not seem like much, but it adds up quickly.
If your capital is small, stick to fast-settling markets so you can turn it over again and again. I did not count exactly, but I am certain I made many, many trades in those 3 days. If you have a huge capital, on the other hand, ignore everything I have said here, I cannot advise you.
I dont know how to share Polymarket profile links, but my username is Muradino. Maybe you would like to fact check me.
