This Monday, Professor D’Souza joined us to break down the evolution of finance: from traditional banking to decentralized finance (DeFi). 🏦➡️🔗 His talk was insightful, easy to follow, and full of thought-provoking ideas. He broke down complex DeFi concepts in a way that made them both understandable and exciting to explore. A few key ideas that stood out: 💳 From institutions to protocols TradFi relies on intermediaries. DeFi replaces them with code and open protocols. ⚡ Fixing inefficiencies DeFi aims to reduce high fees, slow settlements, and barriers created by centralized systems. 🏛️ Institutional tension Banks and regulators often see DeFi as both a threat and something they want to integrate. ⚠️ Still early DeFi is powerful, but it is still a baby, only 5 years old, facing risks like smart contract exploits, protocol hacks, and volatility. 🤖 What’s next AI agents + stablecoins could enable machine-to-machine economies. One key reminder from Professor D’Souza: No matter how advanced financial technology becomes, trust remains the foundation of any financial system. We moved past the hype to talk about what’s actually changing: how new rails, new rules, and new participants are reshaping how capital moves. Two years ago, the conversation was “Is crypto real?” Now, it’s about infrastructure and interoperability. The relationship between TradFi and DeFi is becoming a complex mix of evolution, competition, and deep integration. Whether it’s programmable finance creating composable rails or the shift of risk from intermediaries to smart contracts, the "Bridge-Builder" advantage has never been more relevant. Here is what the smart money is looking at: 🌎 The Macro Trap: US tax revenue is ~17% of GDP. Interest + entitlements consume almost all of it. The result? A debt spiral and inevitable "currency debasement risk." 🥇 Gold vs. ₿: If BTC is digital gold, why does it trade like a tech stock? It comes down to demographics. Gold is held by central banks; BTC is still driven by VCs and risk capital. But mass adoption is shifting this balance. 📈 The Bigger Picture: Bitcoin is just the start.
