Hey, thanks for the kind words on the new body! Quick correction though, there's actually a second way to go fully air-gapped. You don't have to use QR PIN Unlock with the webpage. SeedQR works too, no website needed. You hand-draw (or stamp into metal) your recovery phrase as a QR during setup, then scan it with Jade whenever you want to load your keys. That's it. Fully air-gapped, no companion site, no PIN flow. As for why the webpage exists for the PIN unlock route, it comes down to Jade's security model. Jade doesn't use a traditional secure element. Instead, your seed sits encrypted on the device with a decryption key that's split between Jade and the blind oracle. Entering your PIN tells Jade to go grab the oracle's half of the key to decrypt. Since you're air-gapped, the webpage is just acting as a QR relay between your device and the oracle, that's why scans go both ways. It never sees your PIN or seed, and neither does the oracle (the oracle only stores a hashed PIN + nonce, that's it). That's the design trick that makes a stolen Jade essentially worthless to a thief, because there's nothing of value on the device by itself. So pick whichever fits your workflow. SeedQR if you want zero website interaction, QR PIN Unlock if you'd rather not carry a SeedQR around. Both flows are walked through in the help center: help.blockstream.com/hc/en-us/artic…

Hi @BlockstreamJade the new QR aluminum body device is really pretty! But if I want to keep my Jade air-gapped by not using USB or Bluetooth, it appears the only way to enter QR mode is by scanning the QR on the device with your website? Is this true? If so, why does your website need to scan my device every time I want to use it?

@Arvik315 @asanoha_gold Out of the box, Bluetooth is turned off. It is only turned on if the user opts into Bluetooth. Don't even want the option of Bluetooth? Flash a firmware that disallows it entirely: jadefw.blockstream.com/upgrade/downlo…
