Carefully curating my record collection, one year at a time. Reviewing albums and talking metal history along the way.

First album purchase of 2025 is the new Mutagenic Host album. Great, old school-inspired death metal from the UK. Pretty cool lyrical content too. Kill AI, before it kills you!

(4/4) The title track, 'Hail to England,' is an homage to the country that embraced heavy metal with open arms. Even though early photos resemble a Thunder from Down Under poster, this one is going on my 'want list.' If you haven’t revisited this album recently, give it a spin.

(3/4) Recorded in just six days (!), the rawness adds to its charm. Yet it’s the grandiosity of Eric Adams' vocals and the Wagnerian undertones that make it timeless.

Let’s talk Hail to England—a defining album for Manowar and one of the most over-the-top statements of metal in 1984. 🧵 (1/4)

For some reason, I felt inspired to get my old iPod Classic out and update it. Probably going to rock this for a while.

Hail to England by Manowar thunderous! Epic riffs, powerful vocals, and pure aggressive attitude. Listening today to decide if I need a physical copy in my collection. Is it something I'd put on my turntable in the future? Thread later today with a short review and my verdict.

4/4 With Ride the Lightning, Metallica turned heads globally, moving beyond the underground thrash scene. Its ambition and depth made it a cornerstone of metal history. It's the first thrash record I ever listened to, and gateway to heavier music. Of course I own this on vinyl!

3/4 The title track, 'Ride the Lightning,' reflects the album’s maturity. It’s a thrash song that questions the morality of capital punishment. Instead of glorifying violence, Metallica explored its darker, more philosophical implications.

Significance of Ride the Lightning 🧵 (1/4) Ride the Lightning (1984) wasn’t just Metallica’s second album—it was a bold statement that thrash could be more than raw aggression. With deeper themes and more intricate compositions, it elevated the genre to new artistic heights.

Have you listened to the new Aufnorden? The first song reminds me of Rush “Spirit of the Radio” At times it reminds me of Black Magick SS with the unclean vocals, amidst poppier instrumentation. There is plenty a black metal traditionalist would like here as well. I enjoyed

@BloodFireDoug And everybody freaked out about the acoustic guitars without realizing there was a harpsichord in the mix too. My favorite Metallica record and one of the biggest jumps in songwriting ability from debut to follow up.

The intro to 'Fight Fire with Fire' was inspired by classical guitar pieces. The calm before the storm! Metallica knew how to build tension.

Starting the week with a masterpiece: @Metallica’s Ride the Lightning! Released in 1984, this album took thrash metal to new heights. From 'Fade to Black' to 'Creeping Death,' it's a classic.
