Sad to hear the news that Sweety of St Moritz Club has passed away - a Soho clubland legend. I'm sp pleased that I got to see and chat with him last year when I attended the Forty Fours show at Gaz's Rockin' Blues in November. Here is a shot that I took of him that night when he was still clearly enjoying himself after all those years of running the legendary venue. Blow Up was in weekly residence at the St Moritz Club from Jan 2015 to 2020 lockdown. Good times at a venue part so part of Soho clubbing history. RIP. PT

32 years ago today - @BlowUp was founded and launched by promoter and DJ @PaulTunkin in the upstairs room of Camden Town pub the Laurel Tree. The event initially advertised with flyers at selective places as 'Swinging London' before being replaced with the name 'Londinium', before finally being switched to the name Blow Up by the end of its first week of launching. The tag line 'For the 90s swinging London' became a self-fulfilling prophecy as Blow Up ushered in a music explosion that became known as the Britpop era. Blow Up will celebrate 32. years this Friday 17th October at London Britannia Monument. With DJ Paul Tunkin, LIVE on stage @The_Bongolian launching seventh album for @BlowUpRecords Indian Summer Of Love PLUS The Forty Fours who are newly signed to Blow Up Records. DOORS 8pm.
