My boyfriend is apparently rethinking our entire relationship because I refused to give him $8,000 for a business idea he came up with three days ago. For context, I’ve been saving that money for over two years because I’m finally close to putting a deposit down on my own apartment. He knows this. I still defend my reaction because why would you eat the pregnant woman’s dessert without even asking first? Especially when there was only one slice left and everybody in the house knew it belonged to me. He apologized immediately but I was genuinely devastated. I still bring it up years later because some things do not need to be forgiven quickly. Every time I see cherry pie now I remember the betrayal.

When I was 7 months pregnant, my husband and I went to a party and they had cherry pie. I brought one slice home specifically for myself because at that stage of pregnancy I thought about food constantly. I put it in the fridge, went to bed, and fully planned on eating it the next day.
