@theresamwebster My mom, grandmother and great grandmother were very humble and gentle women. They were quiet women and worked hard.

@Alan1148158 Those steps drive me crazy! The last time I looked in the house it was full of hay😥

@BlueRidgePeace She looks lovely! I’ve seen these places in person many times & in pictures- but never understand how they are surrounded by wood & skilled men but these places never have adequate steps. I’m sure there is a reason though

@carlywg123 I live in an old home too. The cabin part built in 1880, then an addition was added. We have two rock fireplaces. The layout makes no sense but we like it.

@BlueRidgePeace Gorgeous! I know that sounds crazy but I love it. Interesting how the poles went to the ground in the front! Our logs are wider, with wider chinking…Seems like they took more time to build hers. This is all that’s still visible in ours…Thank you!

@BlueRidgePeace If this is the last Post I see on X I'll be satisfied.

@BlueRidgePeace My Great Aunt Mary did the same in a moments notice. She lived to be 94 in Petersburg, Indiana. Pictured here with my Dad mid eighties

@carlywg123 Taken in 2020. There were cows grazing there. In the summer its hardly visible from the road.

@BlueRidgePeace Do you happen to have a wider view of the cabin? We live in one built in 1867, but it’s covered by additions through the years. Lovely picture of your great granny. I bet she was a true gem!

And I just read a Gen Z poster whining about how tough today's young people have it.

My great grandmother standing at the back door of her cabin in the mountains. Her husband died at the age of 36 and she had to raise 5 children alone.I remember visiting her a few times. She would go to the hen house, grab some eggs and scrambled them for us.
English

@GirlsandGoblins Exactly the way it was. Land was dirt cheap here especially on the mountain. I don't now how she made money.
English

@BlueRidgePeace My great grandmother died in 1937. She was called Granny Booth. She also raised her children alone. So many women left alone to raise their young children alone. Many poor, owning a house and the land, but not much more.
