This studio did to brick exactly what Iran does to brick. Something we can do too in Africa but aren’t doing, because we keep choosing foreign aesthetics that don’t suit our climate or us as a people.
Studio Tathya built their own office on a compact urban plot in Raipur, India. The decision they made first wasn’t about form. It was about orientation.
South-west face: solid exposed brick, minimal openings. High thermal mass absorbing and slowing heat before it enters. North-east face: generous glazing, operable louvres, cross ventilation. The building shades itself on one side and breathes on the other.
That’s not decoration. That’s a building reading its sun path and responding with the one material that could do both jobs: brick.
The patterned brickwork on the lower facade isn’t ornamental either. Stepped corbelling around the window openings creates micro-shade on the glass. Every detail is working.
This is what material honesty looks like when the architect believes in what they’re building.

Uganda at it again. A big shoutout to Local Works for their incredible works; beautiful, durable, and deeply sustainable. We need more architectural firms like them on this continent.
Two primary schools built at the edge of Kidepo Valley National Park in Karamoja, one of the most remote landscapes in East Africa. The brief wasn’t just education. It was conservation. Build schools that make communities see wildlife as a livelihood, not a threat.
The architecture answered that brief with the land itself. Hand-mined local granite for foundations and plinth walls. Compressed earth blocks manufactured on-site for the upper walls. No imported materials where local ones existed. The steel roof trusses were designed so light that two workers could lift them without machinery and slim enough that the roof structure of both schools fit on a single truck.
The colored louvre panels do double work, security and shade. Rainwater harvesting. Solar power. Biogas from on-site latrines. The building isn’t just sitting in the landscape. It’s functioning like part of it.
This is what it looks like when architects actually design for the people and the environment they’re building in.

Uganda showing us how residential construction with brick is done the modern, refined way.
Kyatiri House sits near a small village in Masindi District equatorial sun without mechanical cooling. The architects oriented heavy brick walls strictly north-south. Those walls do one thing: block the low morning and evening sun completely. East and west are sealed. North and south open up entirely.
That single decision unlocks everything else. Full glazing on the north and south facades. Unobstructed cross-ventilation. No AC. The brick isn’t aesthetic it is the climate strategy.
Inside, terrazzo floors cast before the walls went up. Eucalyptus planks on the open facades. Pine ceiling boards. Every material local, every choice deliberate.

@RamahKizito It's literally in the slogan..... Redbull gives you wings to be limitless, so the brand has to show everyone what it means to be "limitless"
English

Red Bull really needs to explain what business they’re in.
Energy drink? Media empire? Extreme sports cartel? Ad agency with a caffeine side hustle?
Because no normal beverage company is sponsoring space jumps, F1 teams, and half the internet.
At this point, the drink feels like the side quest.
