His father, who was paralyzed, travelled and watched all his games, even after all the tragedy they've endured. It's storytelling. It creates a personality of the player outside of the court. It's Cui's story, and it should be told

He made it sound like gossip, rather then retelling of a sad story turned inspirational. He cannot speak English without it sounding like an oration or an excited sports fan.
