He didn’t swing. He just shoved her, trying to push her back and she fell because she didn’t plant herself correctly for such an attack.
She had her feet together and in close when she hit the man. When he pushed her she had no back leg, so she simply fell backwards.
She got what she deserved in my opinion.
If he had really hit her, I’m not even sure I’d feel all that differently.

Why did the fire brigade play along? Why didn’t they just walk up to her door and walk her out? Was the safety rope really necessary? Was this some sort of “training exercise”?

I don’t know about all that. I’m afraid that thing would kill me.
1) I tend to cough a lot. This tight enclosure with no quick way to get to fresh air? Recipe for disaster.
2) I am a big guy. Not as big as I used to be, but at 6’1” and 260lbs, if I collapse in there, there is no way they are getting me out unless the tube separates from the base.
I think I’d let you younguns have this one!
