Translating Falasteen (Palestine)
🧵(1/5) Palestinians showed up for the world when the world needed them. Palestinians living in refugee camps with no state, no army, and no government deployed doctors, teachers, and engineers across five African nations, flew combat missions for Nicaragua, trained Cuban and Latin American fighters, and donated portions of their own salaries to fund Vietnam's postwar reconstruction. When Ferguson protesters were tear-gassed in 2014, Palestinians were the ones on social media telling Americans how to survive it, because they had been living under the same weapons, made by the same manufacturer, for decades. Palestinian hostages smuggled solidarity letters to Bobby Sands on the first day of his hunger strike. PLO camps in Lebanon trained fighters from Congo, Japan, Ireland, Italy, and beyond. They gave concrete, documented, material solidarity to nearly every major liberation movement of the 20th century, while themselves living under occupation and inside refugee camps. Now as the Israeli occupation attempts to erase Palestine, the question that hangs over every government, every movement, and every person who was on the receiving end of Palestinian solidarity is a simple one: Where are you?

I’m reading Yahya Sinwar’s books. The more I read, the more shaken I feel. While we were unaware of everything, what they went through, what epics they wrote… To aspire to the same paradise as them is now a sense of shame that goes beyond even khauf and raja

Well… Their type of white American Christianity believes that THEY are the only ones doing Christianity right, the only real Christians 🫩 (What that denotes changes, connected to Republican politics.) So they’re free to hold onto their racism & not see such beautiful people 😭
Shailja #FreePalestine Patel@shailjapatel

Do Christian Zionists understand that Israel is ethnically cleansing the world's oldest Christian communities, descended from the first disciples of Christ? That the Maronite Christians of Lebanon still pray and sing in the language that Jesus spoke?

I know a woman who was trafficked at 17 in South America and raped for years in a brothel, when she got pregnant they threw her out. She had to walk the streets to survive, and ended up having two more kids by 22. She got help at a women’s shelter and now helps the authorities identify traffickers and pimps. She’s saved hundreds of girls. So yeah. Maybe stop posting this.

The martyred child Salma, only 5 years old: I used to see her every day selling small cakes. She was the youngest small business owner in the world, selling just five cakes a day. She worked so hard, yet she was deprived of a childhood like other children. She sold cakes, but she never sold her homeland — not at any price. I recorded this video during the harshest days of famine under the siege of northern Gaza. Yesterday, when I went to provide care for a wounded person near her family’s tent, I asked about her, eager to see her again. The moment her name was mentioned, her family began to cry in deep grief. They told me that only days earlier, she was killed when an explosive device hidden inside a toy detonated. She thought it was a toy and picked it up because she could not afford to buy one — her family was poor. She carried what she believed was a toy, but it exploded in her hands, and her small body was torn into five burned pieces. Instead of the five cakes she used to sell every day, her body was turned into five shattered fragments — the result of deadly remnants left behind, turning Gaza’s children into victims day after day. The martyred child Salma is only one story among thousands of stories of systematic killing and ethnic cleansing. Please share the story of the martyred child Salma with the world. Perhaps something will move, and this hatred and killing will stop. #Children_of_Gaza_are_being_killed before the eyes and ears of the whole world #Gaza_is_calling_for_help #Stop_the_killing Written by Dr. Mostafa Naim From northern Gaza

You said Hồ Chí Minh "chose war." Let me reconstruct the timeline so we're working from actual events rather than impressions. 1858: France begins military conquest of Vietnam. 1887: France formally establishes French Indochina. 1945: Hồ Chí Minh declares Vietnamese independence after Japanese occupation ends. 1945: France announces its intention to recolonize Vietnam. 1946: Hồ Chí Minh negotiates in Paris. Signs preliminary agreements. 1946: France shells Haiphong. Kills six thousand civilians. Occupies Hanoi. 1954: Vietnam defeats France at Điện Biên Phủ. Geneva Accords mandate national elections. 1956: United States prevents the elections because Hồ Chí Minh would win 80 percent. 1965: United States begins massive military escalation. 1975: Vietnam wins. At which moment in that sequence did Hồ Chí Minh "choose war" in the sense that implies a peaceful alternative was available and he rejected it? The French chose war in 1946 when they shelled Haiphong. The Americans chose war in 1956 when they cancelled the election. The Americans chose war again in 1964 with the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. The attack that justified it was fabricated. They knew. They escalated anyway. Hồ Chí Minh responded to wars that were brought to his country. For over a century, from 1858 to the end of the American war in 1975, Vietnam was a country being fought over by foreign powers. The question is not why Hồ Chí Minh chose war. The question is why you describe as a choice something that was, for the Vietnamese people, simply the condition of existence under colonialism.

@nxt888 Ho chi minh was a communist first everything else 2nd. Old man was drunk on power didnt care how many people died. He could ve been like Aung San gradually negotiated. Or like Fidel Castro only declare socialism win after the revolution. Ho Chi Minh refused to wait chose war.

Buying things isn’t fun anymore. Everything is either too expensive, poor quality, a subscription where you don’t actually own anything, benefits an evil corporation, or all of the above.
