An experiment to determine advantage could be to release an identical podcast under a different name with a regular, functional intro - you know, like a human would do it. Whichever draws more listeners has an adaptive advantage!

Is it a mating performance à la Michael Cera or Hugh Grant stumbling and bumbling to convey “you’re safe with me?”

@EPthepod Is it possible there’s an adaptive advantage to being noticeably worse than the entire internet at introducing a podcast? It’s a seemingly simple act; so simple it’s hard to believe the hosts are incapable of doing it well.

@EPthepod @DavePietrasz Talking about free will while figuratively poking the brain to manipulate behavior, I thought about manipulation of behavior pharmacologically, eg, libido under androgen deprivation for prostate cancer patients, hunger for GLP-1 users, etc. Huge populations for study.

My girlfriend got on to me the other day because she doesn’t understand why I can’t just pick eggs out of the carton like a “normal” person. She’s standing there watching me and says, “Why can’t you just go row by row like everyone else?” I said, “Because no egg should ever know when its time is coming.” She stared at me for a second, shook her head, and said, “You’re a psycho,” then walked off. Little does she know…I’ve got a whole tournament system going on. I take two eggs, tap them together, and whichever one doesn’t crack moves on to the next round. Only the strongest survive. 🥚 💪 😂

@StevenHill1776 @Sightline I don’t understand reference to unified primaries without RCV. How many winners emerge from unified primary? If only two, then vote splitting in primary is huge problem. If more than two, then RCV in general election is needed to avoid winner far short of majority.

@ModeledBehavior Minot, ND, the Magic City. “In the 1800’s Minot was a railroad town, it didn’t happen over night but its population grew to 5,000 people in just five months kind of like Magic”. kxnet.com Why not Minot?

I was intrigued by the “studying magic” part so I read the report and did the most cursory googling and $6m of that is for a place called “magic city discovery center”, which is a STEM focused learning center for kids in North Dakota. Just magic in the name, no actual magic.

@GerhardKalinka @gunsnrosesgirl3 Yes. Planet of the Apes. I could easily concede if someone argued some other twist was “better.” But I refer to this one in conversation or joking around more than any other movie twist. “Damn you all to hell!”

@Rob_Richie Do you agree with the line, “The maneuvering is particularly common in all-party primaries in Alaska and California…” Counterintuitive to me.

Not having ranked choice voting opens the door to these appallingly cynical tactics to elevate minor candidates that Democrats this cycle took to a whole new level. politico.com/news/2024/12/0…

@krassenstein This is the power of Final Four Voting to improve government performance. Murkowski cannot be beaten in a low turnout primary, the top four advance from the primary in Alaska. This gives her the courage to make tough decisions our country needs.

BREAKING: Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski just made a bold move, declaring she won’t support any of President Trump’s nominees unless they undergo full FBI vetting. This marks a significant development and could have major implications for the administration’s agenda.

@JonHaidt @LetGrowOrg I like that a lot. A little like when I was leader on a scout canoe trip. I’d stand 50 yards away fishing while the boys set up camp. The distance reduced any urge I had to interfere while that day’s crew leader did his best to lead the boys.

Here's an easy way to give your kids a more play-based childhood. Just designate a time each week for free play at a local playground or park, and ONE parent each week is there, at a distance, not supervising. Collective action! @LetGrowOrg businessinsider.com/mom-rotates-wi…
