@FarmGirlRebecca Sorry to hear that, I know how that goes. We worked with a consultant to help us in a similar situation - we eventually got the person the help that they needed, but it isn't easy. Passing along her contact in case you need it: tinyurl.com/3peha6j9

@Bob_Pike @MattWalshBlog One of my cousins came to our Easter dinner on Sunday, with twitching hands, talking to himself, and yammering nonsense. He's obviously not doing well again, either not taking his meds or using drugs (or both). Probably homeless again. But there is nothing we can do.

The whole idea of "incompetent to stand trial" is fucking nonsense. If you're too "incompetent" to understand that you shouldn't butcher an innocent woman on the train, you should die. Period. Arrest, convict, execute. You are not fit to be a part of human society. How many more innocent people must we sacrifice for the sake of coddling and babying the absolute scum of the Earth? Our ancestors had it right. They would have had this guy hanging from the gallows an hour after conviction. The old system of justice was light years better than this insane bullshit we're dealing with now.

@jwkicklighter @PopEscher @MattWalshBlog Yeah we couldn't agree more. I just want to rid ourselves of the additional homeless crazy people - it's a problem we could solve fairly easily. Make it easier to get very obviously I'll people committed.

@Bob_Pike @PopEscher @MattWalshBlog Let me rephrase what I said: perhaps if people are held accountable for actions they perform while under drug-induced psychosis, other people will think twice before beginning to use drugs that could induce psychosis.

Yeah, we're talking about different things. High THC marijuana, for example, causes psychosis in people that might not otherwise experience psychosis. I'm all for cracking down on drugs. I'm all for law and order. I'm for punishing people that commit crimes, regardless of their mental status. I'd like to prevent the crimes, though, too.

@Bob_Pike @PopEscher @MattWalshBlog Perhaps if the consequences for doing something that you wouldn’t do without being under the influence of drugs involved the death penalty, fewer people would use drugs due to the fear of unknowingly doing something that would lead to the death penalty.

Ok, man. But if you address what I'm talking about, less people wind up dead. I'm just telling you, if you saw this guy, knew he was likely to kill someone, and called the police, they'd likely be unable to act. I don't disagree with the sentiment at all. Once they commit the act, convict -> punish. We're on the same team. Let's just stop creating these people.

@Bob_Pike @MattWalshBlog Robert, I'm not disagreeing with you here (I'm a fan), but we have to find a way to directly address the posts we're replying to. Reframing it as mental illness invokes a whole separate class of intermediary steps and bureaucratic mazes. Arrest, Convict, Execute, as Matt said.

@MFischerHawley @MattWalshBlog Not at all. I promise my thoughts on this are much more complicated than that. I'm talking about prevention. Prevention isn't possible if we just let crazy people be crazy.

@watsahoola @MattWalshBlog 💯. If you're dealing with an active situation, please DM me, I know some people that can help. The first step from a legislative standpoint IMO has to be to make it easier for loved ones to get those in crisis to a hospital. Right now, it's basically impossible.

@Bob_Pike @MattWalshBlog My fam has intimate experience with the situations you mention. I do not wish it on anyone. Agree with what you have said. I also think asylums had their place and with proper oversight we need many more put in use again.
