On this 50th anniversary, all due respect, gratitude and celebration of the first woman to officially win the Boston Marathon: Nina Kuscsik! Prior to 1972, when the AAU accepted Nina’s petition, no woman could officially run a marathon in the United States.

@PJimL7 Interestingly I didn’t break any rules. I was challenging the generally held prejudice and false belief that women are unable to run marathon distances and the rules should change. I was running the first Pioneer Women’s Division later accredited by the Amateur Athletic Union.
