Another Walz Whopper. Gov. Walz told a Texas audience that Minnesota has “better achievement,” “less truancy,” and even “universal pre-K.” Here are the facts: 🔸 No universal pre-K — Minnesota serves only 11% of 4-year-olds and 1% of 3-year-olds in state preschool. We rank 37th in the nation for access. 🔸 Achievement is falling — Minnesota still hasn’t returned to pre-pandemic proficiency in reading or math. Only 28% of 8th-graders are proficient in reading. 🔸 Nation’s worst achievement gap — Minnesota has one of the largest white–nonwhite achievement gaps in America, year after year. 🔸 Graduation up — readiness down — Diplomas are increasing, but far fewer students can actually read or do math at grade level.
