Yesterday evening, Boca Raton Fire Rescue responded to a fire at Town Center Mall near Bloomingdale’s. At 6:56 p.m., crews were dispatched after reports were received of smoke and flames from the food court roof area. The fire appears to have started in the kitchen of Tobu before extending to part of the roof near an air conditioning unit. Our firefighters had the fire under control in 22 minutes. As a precaution, the mall was evacuated last night due to smoke but resumed normal operations today. We are happy to report there were no civilian injuries.

UPDATE: 4/2/26 at 8:45PM - CORRECTION: The mall will remain closed for evening and will reopen tomorrow.

UPDATE: 4/2/26 at 8:27PM - Portions of the mall have reopened, while some areas remain closed as crews continue assessment and cleanup efforts on site. Those in or around the mall may still hear fire alarms sounding from some department stores; however, the scene is secure. Please use caution and be mindful of emergency personnel and crews working in the area, as they are expected to remain on scene for the next few hours.

ALERT: Structural fire at 6000 W Glades Rd (Boca Raton Town Center Mall). Fire is currently is under control and Boca Boca Raton Police Services Department and Fire Rescue units are on scene and actively working. Please avoid the area.

Not all training happens in a classroom. Boca Raton Fire Rescue recently trained inside an acquired residential structure, creating a realistic environment to sharpen critical skills. Crews performed search and rescue, VES (Vent, Enter, Search), and advanced attack line operations under real-world conditions. Environments like this are critical for strengthening tactics, building confidence, and preparing our firefighters for the moments that matter most.

Beginning today, FRIDAY, FEB 27 🚒🧑‍🚒🧯Our Boca Raton Fire Rescue teams will be conducting a TRAINING EXERCISE from 8:30AM to approx. 3PM. Units will stage at the Downtown Boca Raton Library, and will respond to a SIMULATED structure fire response at 236 NW 7th Street. - Training exercises will continue next Monday and throughout next week.

This prestigious honor recognizes his exceptional service, leadership, and commitment to public safety. For more than 36 years, Chief Ward has served our community with distinction, earning more than 130 awards and commendations while mentoring firefighters and supporting residents when it mattered most. In 2025, his leadership guided responses to major incidents, and even while off duty he stopped to assist at a rollover crash, reflecting the compassion and professionalism of Boca Raton Fire Rescue.
