As a result there was ni consensus on how to estimate the lag phase duration and the methods related to that procedure tend to be underreported in the literature. Hope our new tools will help with that

Our new paper about how to calculate microbial lag phase duration is out. besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/20… Here we publish an R package and a web application that will help microbiologists to estimate the lag phase duration using multiple methods and data pre-processing techniques.

Although some mathematical approaches have been introduced in the last century, they often fail or cause technical problems when applied to experimental growth curve data which may be noisy or deviate from the theoretical shape.

Zawsze wspieram @NCN_PL jako instytucję, która zmieniła oblicze polskiej nauki i została stworzona na silnych i sensownych fundamentach. Ostatnie wypowiedzi dotyczące konieczności utrzymania współczynnika sukcesu są jednak kontrowersyjne. Ograniczenie maksymalnej kwoty projektów czy wynagrodzeń młodych naukowców co najwyżej sprawi, że spadnie jakość badań i kolejna grupa świetnie wykształconych osób po studiach wyjdzie z kraju. Warto również zauważyć, że brak zwiększenia budżetu na naukę w obliczu galopującej inflacji przez @MEIN_GOV_PL prowadzi do kuriozalnych sytuacji, w których finansowanie narodowe staje się jałmużną, a po prawdziwe środki naukowcy muszą się udać do Komisji Europejskiej. Jakość, nie ilość. Żeby nie okazało się za chwilę, że Państwo udaje że finansuje naukę, a naukowcy udają że ją robią. forumakademickie.pl/sprawy-nauki/b…

What are the main drivers of the observed diversity/ modularity? For RBPs and endolysins it's clearly the need to match their hosts (tropism), but for core replication proteins it's less clear. We argue that the likely candidate are phage defence systems (see our Discussion).

@tcoenye I am about to release a preprint on that! The most traditional approach is to calcate the intersection of the initial density line and the line tangent to exp. growth phase (in log scale) but fitting a model, for example a Monod model is better. Happy to share my new web tool
