@mossposter I am a big advocate of sumo/dekopon oranges. The topknot bulge and easy to peel skin makes them one of the best oranges. They are on the sweet side, but not overly sweet. When they are in season I eat multiple a week.

@readynafewdays Wait, places come with the rugs on the walls? People don't keep them?

@readynafewdays In your current living situation, how many rugs do you have on the wall?

@ThomasWayneRil1 I think today a lot of people forget how adversarial the relationship was between the US and British during the 19th century, reaching its with the Trent affair during the Civil War. The modern relationship came only into existence in the years preceding WWI.

@ThomasWayneRil1 The islands would be occupied by both sides for another decade until a German commission chose the American boundary and with it the San Juan Islands officially became American.

@ThomasWayneRil1 A little over a decade later there was a dispute over the San Juan Islands, started by the killing of a pig. This lead to an actual military confrontation (Pig War) between the British and America, thankfully no blood was spilled.

Declaration of Independence is decent overview of grievances of our Revolution, & doesn't map well on present left/right divide. It complains about blacks, Catholics, bureaucrats, Amerindians, & cuts to Protestant immigration; but also asserts natural law & judicial independence.

Exactly right. What’s more, as Russell Kirk argued, the American Revolution can be understood as a conservative reaction against royal innovation—the trampling of the rights of free Englishmen, rights that had their source in medieval Catholic England.

@ErishaAnn Good point, but doesn't have nearly much charisma as the former two.
