@warne @RScottClark I still use it- but study it and highlight words and phrases. I think I pull off preaching without out reading it. May not work for all but has worked for me

One of the easiest way for manuscript preachers to sound less like a book in the pulpit, it's to go back through and put a contraction everywhere it's warranted and even where it isn't if you can swing it.

@RScottClark @warne Been preaching 30+ years. The discipline of writing a manuscript has been very beneficial. I then preach it through without reading from it after study and review.

And maybe look at the congregation once in a while during the sermon. I'm beginning to think that a manuscript is a good thing, but it is only a preliminary step. Once it is complete, it should be reduced, for the purposes of the sermon, to an outline. If a sermon must be delivered from a full manuscript for fear of making a mistake or omitting something, it is probably too complex. It is quite possibly more than one sermon.

@Bones4AU @CAHutch1990 @RScottClark And never had a crash while preaching? I guess it is fairly rare. I'd just myself be pretty nervous to note have printed crash copy in a teaching/lecturing situation (or "preaching" - I'm not licensed to much less exhort as I'm not a ruling elder)

Memo to on-air (radio) talent: Rush was wright. Print out your copy. Yes the screen is convenient, but in the middle of your live read or your network appearance, your screen will blank and your copy is gone and you will sound like an idiot. I just heard a Fox radio host, making an appearance on KFAB in Omaha, lose his copy in the middle of his appearance. I hear this all the time. It's preventable.

Quick Maggie update: Her bloodwork today showed a further drop in all three areas—platelets, white blood cells, and red blood cells. Dr. Davis told us he is not panicking, but right now he simply does not have enough information to say what is happening. Sometimes this kind of thing happens, and it could be viral. We just need more information. Maggie is getting a platelet infusion today and will have a bone marrow test tomorrow morning. She will be put to sleep for the procedure, but it is outpatient. Caitlin and Maggie in Jackson tonight so they can be at the hospital early tomorrow. Lord willing, they will come home tomorrow, and then we will wait about five days for the bone marrow results. Please keep praying for Maggie, for wisdom for her doctors, and for good news from the testing. Caring Bridge link: caringbridge.org/site/5ce8e95f-…

Appreciate your prayers for our daughter. Maggie had a clinic appointment today. Her platelets and white blood counts have gone down significantly. While this can be a sign of rejection, at this point her doctors don’t think it is rejection - they think it’s likely a combination of medication side effects. Please pray for doctors as they try to figure out what’s going on, that her body would not reject the transplant, and that her counts would recover. This also means we return to a season of isolation (i.e. no worship services etc. for Maggie). (Maggie is happy as can be. Doesn’t feel bad at all.)

Wish I had words to describe how much I admired Paul Kooistra. Thankful to the Lord to have come to know him and so grateful for his life and ministry. #pcaga

PCAGA update: A nominations vote was so close, and technical issues so great, that we had to do a standing vote count, something that’s never happened in my 5 years floor clerking. Delicious. #pcaga

The young leaders on the floor of the PCA General Assembly #PCAGA were incredibly impressive this week. And the General Assembly was emphatic in all the right directions.
