With all due respect, I find it hard to believe you are an academic, in the sense of you teach at the university level, but America these days. And your definition of religion is limited and your opinion on metaphysics is primitive. Be an atheist, it’s a reasonable position. I’m an agnostic but I keep an open mind. You aren’t going to legislate religion away, America is built on religious freedom, and this idea that all Muslims fit some ridiculous mold is ludicrous, even at the religious level. Go to Malaysia or the gulf region and you’ll learn. In fact, the places I just referenced are way safer and more orderly than America. You could leave your cell phone on the table at a restaurant and pick it up hours later with no concerns. Malaysians are pleasant, friendly and welcoming. Do I agree with everything they do in their societies, nope, but I don’t agree with everything in America, Israel or Europe. There is no Islamic invasion in America. In fact, in America Muslims are statistically more materially successful than the average American and more law abiding. I agree in places like the UK and France, there are issues. UK Muslims are particularly insufferable but that’s mostly cause their lazy welfare cases and I’d hesitate to blame Islam fully.
