In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with masturbation itself. A lot of his struggle is coming from the shame and negative mentality attached which he’s been taught to believe. Now this is causing a constant mental fight between who he is and what he’s been told to believe. He shouldn’t focus on stopping overnight but focus on understanding his triggers, create limits for himself, go out more, stay occupied and work on the loneliness behind it too. Progress over time is still progress.
