“We’re going to use everybody, and everybody has to be ready,” said Cora. “Everybody’s going to benefit from the luxury that we have. We’ve got five good players. It’s just making sure they understand going into the season, this is who we are, this is what we have, and if they have any questions, come here. If [all five get regular playing time], it’s gonna be special, because all of them can change games in different ways.”

I think our entire organization is pretty well primed between every day MLB players and prospects that competition will breed the best team by the time you get to the middle of the season and ultimately for the playoffs. Casas is one of those guys that could play well enough to get reps at first when healthy and you know what, if he sucks they can send him back down lol

I think the overall message I was getting at was that Rafaela will not be rotated as much as the others out of CF. Cora has the luxury to award playing time and reps to the OF that is doing the best as well as to sit or substitute as he pleases whether that be for defense or offense

@MLPitchpiner @BostonTBA @matthewcrory @alexspeier Agreed he is awesome in CF, but they don't really lose that much on defense with Duran in CF and Roman in LF. If the team offense does well, Rafaela will have a longer leash. If the team struggles to score runs and his OPS drops below .600 that could lead to a change.

I agree with that but dude was the most clutch hitter on the team last year and his glove is worth 3/4 WAR by itself... This year I think he will prove he can be the MVP level hitter he was for a few weeks before the AS break. (I'm not saying he will be MVP btw so don't try to cook me lol)

@BostonTBA @MLPitchpiner @matthewcrory @alexspeier You do realize Rafaela is by far the worst hitter among the 4 starting outfielders .... it's not even close. If he continues to hit like he did in the second half last year, he will likely be sitting a lot more often than you realize.

@RafaelaEnjoyer I think Cora will ultimately use Yoshida off the bench more than the others rather than starting. They might plan to play Yoshida a bit more at the beginning of the season to try to get some trade interest if he does well.

Ben Rice will have a top 10 OPS in AL

Players hardly play 162 anymore. I think Cora is bluffing a bit and Yoshida will be a more off the bench kind of guy and they will rotate Duran/Abreu/Roman/Yoshida thru the DH spot. I envision Yoshida getting enough playing time that maybe he does well enough to get some trade value

Kind of a tired take. I very much agree that Henry is cheap, he spends less of their profit than any teams but this dude has helped them win 4 championships the past 22 years, Pats have 6 but Kraft has owned the Patriots for 8 more years than John Henry has owned the Sox. Bruins have won 1, celtics twice.
Tolle unfortunately has legitimately no room to pitch in the rotation unless there's an injury and they don't want him to be in the bullpen to waste his starter potential
