Dean, when the city of San Francisco gives free money to people who use that money to overdose and die, the city is culpable in their death. Frankly I’m surprised we haven’t seen wrongful death lawsuits from families who have lost loved ones over this already. Handing someone who is suicidal a loaded gun is a bad idea. So is handing $687 in cold hard cash to a known addict, many who DO in fact use this money to die. You are a parent. If your daughter was fentanyl addicted in San Francisco would you give her a big wad of cash each month knowing that it might kill her? Or would you be working as hard as you could to get her into treatment? 84 people died last month from overdoses in San Francisco. Some of these people died using the free money San Francisco gives out. These people had family who loved them. People’s kids are moving to San Francisco because of the free money and easy drugs on our streets. For many this is a death sentence. Please reconsider your opposition to giving drug addicts money for death. Their deaths may mean nothing to you, but they do matter to the people who love them. I lost my younger brother to heroin.
