These are 2 completely different things. 1) pre determined unopposed movement 2) a solution in milliseconds to a high speed problem What has happened with our idea of skill and motor learning is we think that 1) has to happen before 2). When in fact it doesn’t matter if 1) happens or not. They are unrelated other than there is a ball involved. We also have to consider level. Even if an u16 can do something that looks like 2) at their level and I can do it at the over 40’s 5 a side, they are still completely different from 1) or 2). Context and environment matter. The problem changes as the level changes, even if there are similarities optically. *and no, I don’t care that it’s Toni Kroos. Just because he was a very good footballer doesn’t mean he can’t be drawn into the same mistaken understandings as anyone else


What are we trying to improve? ▪️Far too many drills improve drill performance more than game performance. ✔️ Saturday our kids have a game to play, not a drill. #TOVO #intelligentfootball
