This is a better way to look at skill development.
Everything on the left includes isolated practice, self guided exploration and learning, playing on the street, exploring your body as a child and more.
It’s not linear.
And then we have the complexity layers that with some skills we may be more left and others more right, and everything else in between.

These are 2 completely different things. 1) pre determined unopposed movement 2) a solution in milliseconds to a high speed problem What has happened with our idea of skill and motor learning is we think that 1) has to happen before 2). When in fact it doesn’t matter if 1) happens or not. They are unrelated other than there is a ball involved. We also have to consider level. Even if an u16 can do something that looks like 2) at their level and I can do it at the over 40’s 5 a side, they are still completely different from 1) or 2). Context and environment matter. The problem changes as the level changes, even if there are similarities optically. *and no, I don’t care that it’s Toni Kroos. Just because he was a very good footballer doesn’t mean he can’t be drawn into the same mistaken understandings as anyone else

▪️Far too many drills improve drill performance more than game performance.
✔️ Saturday our kids have a game to play, not a drill.

We focus on an environment where we look great in practice. Makes us feel good, it makes the parents feel good. They must be learning.
Game day players struggle. Our response is “we worked on this in practice” instead of taking blame for the drill not transferring!

@LearningVolley I have seen what roboflow with the right data etc has done with Tennis, even in a post match process setting in terms of tracking even with blur, occlusion, small object in large amt of frames etc. if there is anything that can track set trajectory reliably that would be great!

1 Today I browsed around Volleymetrics and a few things stood out
1. extensive rating system
2. reports are really long
3. their play by play has no timestamps
And for the computer vision tomorrow I'll be labeling on roboflow for multiple object segmentation.
Then its label, train, label, train until you get a good validation score and start adding heuristics (the fun part). Tomorrow we are going to see the first version of our engine :)
And I spent a few hours trying to hook up a game to my server and the CPU keeps going off the charts :) Spent too much time on that tbh, I'll add multiplayer for it this weekend.
