You are seeing proof of concept for the trade James Harden is able to absorb All-NBA caliber defenders, can make plays in isolation, and has helped a supercharge the bigs Having a player who does that and can credibly guard 2-4 (He guards, he really does) is huge Spent time tonight on Paul Reed even; you can’t do that with a smaller guard Darius Garland will be an all-star caliber player for years to come but Harden is an All-NBA guy still & such a unique fit with this core *They also did it to have more optionality in the event that they lost earlier than expected, they are getting out in front of the small guard market (See: Trae Young)

Hey Pistons fans, just know that this is as good as it's going to get for you. Your best player is an inefficient turnover machine who looks like Eric Andre. Your 2nd best player just had the worst playoff drop ever. Oh, and you gotta pay him a shitload of money soon. Ausar Thompson couldn't score 10 points overnight in an empty gym if you told him he couldn't dunk. Your head coach is a completely unlikable bitch who complains all the time. @pgh877 I didn’t say that. If you win the weak east and get absolutely beat down by the Thunder or Spurs, that’s still a successful season. The Harden trade was a win now move. I remember fans wanting to play TOR & DET instead of ATL & BOS. We got what we want & still have underachieved.

@pgh877 To me, the expectation this year w/ an injured Tatum and everything else that went on was to win the East. Barely scraping by Toronto and a young Pistons team to get to the ECF (especially if we get smoked by NYK)…that’s not a success to me. And not a reason to pay Mitchell.

@BoxingAddiction I think viewing, with a win, making the conference finals as a failure and cause to essentially tank is just a problem with how the twitter fans view the sport. That’s not a failure, if they win it tonight, they’re running it back. As you objectively should.

@pgh877 Of course, but no issue paying someone who proves they’re worth it. That 2nd extension is like 6 yrs into their career, right? Gilbert has never had an issue spending. We have the highest payroll in the NBA. But paying a near-30 yr old 6’1 G who’s never been past round 2 is nuts.

If you hit on your picks and he and other young guys develop favorably, you can be a contender. If not, blow it up & go full rebuild once we own OUR picks again.

So you have to find a way to stay competitive now (while Utah owns our picks), but also build for the future. Mobley COULD potentially develop into that guy. Trade Mitchell for young guys & picks while his value is high
