If in Brazil you were to call me an 'evil imperialist or colonist' or something like that, and I deem that as extremely offensive to me because of the connotation people attach to it (and especially because I have no connection to what some random white people in history who did bad things), and I go to the government, should I be able to make you be thrown in prison for it? If you say no, because that's not a racist remark... right, but you see how that's problematic right? Because if you can be put in prison for words that are offensive, you can see how I would be able to twist that, and say that if a racist remark is worthy of that, why can't I also accuse you of being extremely offensive because of the connotation? What could the argument from the government even be? They can't judge whether or not I find it offensive, which is exactly the problem... at some level you can choose whether or not you let it offend you much, and so it's dependent on the feelings and perception of the perceived victim. That's why it's so dangerous, unfortunately once you go down that path, it's very hard to reverse it and stop it from devolving into madness and massive government authoritarianism and injustice
