It’s incredible to think that Luke Shaw came back to football after nearly losing his leg — and today, at 30, he’s a starter for Manchester United.
That scar above his low socks tells the story: a double fracture of his tibia and fibula suffered in a Champions League match in 2015, when he was just 20.
“Nobody knows it, but I was really very close to losing my leg. I didn’t know until six months later when the doctor told me. At that moment they thought about flying me to Manchester, but if they had, it’s very likely I would have lost my leg because of blood clots and other things. I have two scars on the side of my leg where they had to cut to remove them because of how serious the injury was.”
