@HangleyJr The fitting, just and *effective* consequence for unintentional injury/death caused by negligent driving is fine, community service and loss of car and license. In cases of criminal negligence jail time. But the thing that will actually make roads safer is fewer bad drivers.

Disability: 19 disability spaces were added behind the music concourse to account for the 15 spaces lost on JFK, a net gain for disabled drivers. Seniors: Phyllis Meehan (78), Mary Fong Lau (78), Karen Cartagena (71), Sudhanshu Ghoshal (82) have all killed people with their cars in the bay area in the last few years. We should be making it harder for seniors to drive (increase insurance rates, increase testing requirements, food discounts for surrendering your license like in Japan), and provide alternatives (like discounted Waymo's). theguardian.com/world/2016/nov…

Discriminating against older and disabled ppl who now are shut out of the eastern end of GG Park is unethical & discriminatory, regardless of who promotes it.

UPDATE: WEST PORTAL SFMTA/MELGAR/DEBACLE Yesterday evening and after @myrnamelgarsf signaled to donors, @SFMTA_Muni and others that she'd like to "take all cars off West Portal", 11 West Portal residents and/or small business owners met as a committee for the first of three meetings to send a signal of their own to D7 Supervisor Melgar and the SFMTA. Below is a thread of each of the 11 members expressing their perspectives on the traffic changes proposed by SFMTA. NOT ONE SUPPORTS THE MELGAR/SFMTA PROPOSAL! SEE FOR YOURSELF!! Let's start here, with a committee member who says "I would say in general I feel safe walking down West Portal Avenue"

WP residents & merchants live & work there & know what happens there on a daily basis. They must have the most input into traffic changes.

I also know that the entire process could be an exercise in futility, w/ the results and recommendations of the WP committee ending up be completely disregarded by the SFMTA board. SFMTA has a history of disregarding community input & surveys.

@jrskis Right? My car-brain brother lives in West Portal. While he acknowledges the horror of what happened to that family at the bus stop, he complains about any measures to slow down car traffic or block it from some areas. *sigh*

Muni is sooo dysfunctional, they don't even disclose how many daily riders use the L and the K lines. The N averages 24.5k daily riders, the M line 17.6K, the L and K lines? zero Muni needs major administration changes before they worry about reconfiguring West Portal. sfmta.com/reports/muni-r…

I bike daily in SF. Waymos over human drivers for safety all the way. Human drivers care more about what’s in the car, waymos care more about what’s outside the car, which makes everyone safer on the roads.

I hope that they come up w/ concrete recommendations.
