@BrainLeakage03 The setting and visuals of the 1995 movie are better. But the dumb Hollywood humor doesn't even come close to the twisted, perverse British satire of the comics. Dredd himself has absolutely nothing to do with the character. The 2012 movie nails Dredd's personality much better

My lukewarm take is that Dredd is the superior movie, but it's a trash adaptation that keeps none of the humor or over-the-top satire of the original comics. The Stallone version is closer to the feel of the comics, even if he spends 90% of it with our his helmet.

1) A resemblance is they can kill citizens, without checks and balances, because there is no separation of power, and they are judge, jury and executioner. By your reasoning; women and racial minorities should not have rebelled against the US government, because the governments had been elected. 2) You are saying he 'won at life' because he was had 'achievements' and was rich. Those are external. Your values obvious place money and 'achievements' about happiness. You could have concluded that noone is winning in life in MC1, but instead you see the rich and people with 'achievements' as winning. Which shows what you value (very conservative right wing belief - income is the measure of a successful life). 3) You seem to be asking that question by dropping context. Dredd is judge, jury and executioner. He's killed more people than Jeffrey Dahmer, and sleeps fine. Low affect, empathy, or compassion are characteristics of autism and depressive patients. Low affect are not characteristics of autism, you're confusing flat affect with low affect. Low affect means lack of emotion, flat affect means lack of visible emotion. Dredd does not bond deeply. Dredd kills without remorse. Autistic people can (and do) have deep bonds, autistic people can (and do) experience deep emotion, austistic people can (and do) develop the ability to empathize (there are 3 levels of autism, in case you don't know). Depression is a mental illness, not a personality. Depressed people can have empathy and compassion, I honestly have no idea why you think depressed people lack empathy and compassion. How old are you? I find your statements seriously ignorant, and contain black and white thinking. Not just about autisim and depression, but your views on human nature in general. Without being condescending, I hope you are young. If not... You are honestly pretty typical of right wing people that I've come across. 4) The studies were in relation to violent crime, and are cross-cultural. 5) Right, so they didn't implement the things I've said in conjunction. 6) Historically there have been places with far more rampant violence than MC1 (e.g. what the European colonialists did to the natives and Black slaves in the Americas), and even in parts of the world today there are places with very high violent crime rates. MC1 is just a fictional depiction of the kind of things that goes on various third world nations today, in a futuristic state. You can't seem to imagine any other solution to high crime other than a militaristic police force. Despite the authors not endorsing position, and showing that it's problematic, and not a good solution. They openly showing you that it's a bad response, and your are justifying it. They are showing the problems that militarism and late stage capitalism causes, and you seem to think the problem is the solution.

1) To you. Difference of values. The colonialists committed a violent revolution against the British government and established the United States Of America, which you are evidently against, unless you are a hypocrite. I don't think it would have been unethical for a Jewish person to kill a Nazis officer to escape a concentration camp, but you do. I don't think it's wrong to kill Spanish colonialists who ruled the Americas, and were taking indigenous 10 year olds to be pimped out to Europeans. (You can read Christopher Colombus talking about it.) But you do. 2) Again a difference of values. You are only looking at external things 'achievement' and money, as a measure of 'winning'. When the other option is to conclude (which is intended by the writers) is that noone has won in MG1. That's the point, the system is dysfunctional. 3) Low affect, empathy and compassion is what make him psychopathic. 4) It's a belief based on multiple studies. What's your belief based on that making the police militarized and judge, jury and executioner rolled into one is a solution for high violent crime? 5) In Mega city one; Is the population highly educated? Are there an abundance of youth programs? Do they engage in social spending, wealth redistribution to reduce income inequality? Do they provide acces to mental health treatment? 6) People have had that same attitude toward various groups in history. They look at how a group currently are, and assume that nothing can done to improve how their conditions, education level, propensity for crime, etc. Which leads to a reinforcing cycle; nothing can be changed so don't try to do anything to change. They can't be helped so don't try to help. A very right wing belief about various demographics in society.
