This is one of my favourite moments from BBC's Life Story. The skill involved with making this structure is AMAZING. And it is MADE BY A FISH! (Video BBC)

Janet Rossant used “the pantheon” to refer to the collection of model organisms in her #IZFC2021 talk. It’s a VERY good analogy. Different strengths and specializations for different models.

My poster for #IZFC2021 is up - we explore the spatio-temporal expression for all zfish Connexins (Cx) across a whole-embryo scRNAseq dataset. There are a lot of Cx (41!), but they all have unique expression signatures. cdmcd.co/zYRK6a

Happy to share a new paper in which we helped our friends and colleagues Pauline Salis, Vincent Laudet and others understand environmental plasticity in clownfish pigmentation. Anemone species > TH signaling > Pigmentation. pnas.org/content/118/23…

Let's play #GuessThatISH! Can you guess the anatomical structure that is labelled by this in situ probe? We'll give you a hint, this is a ventral view of a 5-day-old #zebrafish larvae. The first person to guess correctly gets bragging rights! Bonus points: Guess the gene!

The people I work with are badasses. Because of them we have three new preprints on-line. 1/11

Also kinda neat that one of them is golden. If I get to larger numbers I assume the proportion of golden zebra danios will approximate either 12.5% (if one of the members of the trio doesn't carry the trait) or 25% (if all three of them carry the trait), assuming it's recessive.

In other news I have accidental zebra danio fry. I've had an adult trio for ~2 years, but I recently put them in a tank where the filter output is over a divider, so some of the fry are making it through the filter and ending up on the side without bigger fish that will eat them.
