@stewartwaine I used to grow it in huge abundance but never a single fruit. Probably still going under a hedge. I guess it is one that needs a male too?

(Not my pictures) Chilean beach strawberry, one species I’d love to see in its natural environment more than any other species, a species I used to grow but can be fussy in the uk

@CEriophorum Four things: Phyla nodiflora, Anemone x hybrida, a dark (presumably garden escape) var of Malva sylvestris & Ceratostigma plumbaginoides

@bastiaan_brak It’s a pretty frequent almost-escape in suburban areas in Norfolk. Almost always growing through a wall.

@Jo_the_botanist @NatureLark @DWEmley10 The first is Limonium intercedens which (amongst the six or so binervosum agg taxa on this bit of coast) has this short herringbone inflorescence and no sterile branches. The second is L. x neumanii (red anthers) but at the L. vulgare end of its spectrum

Two Sea-lavender plants in flower at Holkham saltmarsh. Are they the same species and if so is it possible to say which? @NatureLark

An interesting apple on the boundary of a garden & common in west Brittany. White with small red patches. Sweet and juicy then not unpleasantly bitter. Any ideas @stewartwaine

The ridiculously gorgeous Otanthus maritimus (Achillea maritima) Cottonweed in northern France today. Such as shame it’s been gone from GB shores for so long.. perhaps to return; we seem to have plenty of habitat for it

@BrambleBotanist Looks like ive just about lost it in cultivation however ive noticed two very tiny specimens popping up of what could well be this great plant in one of my water filled containers. Will need to double check before they die down for the winter

Water Germander Teucrium scordium at one of its two remaining GB native sites. It seems to be doing well at recently introduced locations too #StillFlowering #Wildflowerhour

@inaturalist @numenini Aka Golden-rumped Elephant-shrew! Brilliant things. I used to see several every day working in the Arabuko-Sokoke forest.

Welsh Mudwort Limosella australis grown from strandline fragments at Pwllheli harbour a few weeks back. Unlike Mudwort L. aquatica (last pic also cultivated) australis has undifferentiated petiole/leaf & surprisingly strongly freesia-scented white flowers #Wildflowerhour

Broke a journey at a nursery and picked up several beautiful bargain (reduced to £5 before the frost gets them!) Mangave vars to add to my collection. The plant passporting ID seems a bit off tho! Mangave/Mangrave/Mangrove!

@astrid_biddle @BSBIbotany Oo making this map was on my to do list for the next few weeks, re Senecio paludosus which likes tidal freshwater. Can I steal this please? River Nene is not tidal near its mouth?

I'm mapping plants on QGIS and trying to include Guernsey (see the poor inset map). Red shows tidal portions of rivers. I must look for a better outline of the British Isles; otherwise, I'll have to get my crayons out. 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

There’s still a couple more expeditions to squeeze in before the weather turns and then there’s necrobotany.. so #favouritefind 2024? Probably the unexpectedly beautiful jewel-like Myosotis alpestris adorning the high crags of Ben Lawers.

Botanising with #NorfolkFloraGroup has led to a #favouritefind on many outings: Rubus leucostachys, huge patches of Pennyroyal Mentha pulegium on two meetings, a new site for Crested Cow-wheat Melampyrum cristatum and a new location for the beautiful Rubus incurvatus

What to choose as #wildflowerhour #favouritefind 2024?! Perhaps a fab fern: Late winter I surveyed the English Killarney Fern sites & this Trichomanes speciosum cloaked boulder was memorable. Guernsey Fern Asplenium x microdon was a highlight of the @BSBIbotany summer meeting..
