Parliament is not a rubber stamp. It exists to test laws, restrain power, and uphold freedom. But tonight, the Liberals and Bloc once again voted to push Bill C-9 forward despite serious concerns. Canadians deserve better.

Liberals often accuse Conservatives of obstructing. Then last week, a Liberal MP filibustered for roughly a quarter of the committee segment time, accusing Conservatives of obstruction while running out the clock herself, reading off what sounded like notes generated by ChatGPT. Zero self-awareness. Even the Bloc called it out.

The Liberal government's own report said farmers were concerned about fertilizer caps or reductions. So, I asked Minister Dabrusin to give me an ironclad guarantee no such thing would ever happen. Why is it so hard for Liberals to rule them out once and for all?

More than 400 people turned out in Winkler today for our town hall on Bill C-9 with MP @AndrewLawton. At a time when the Liberals and Bloc are seeking to remove the long-standing safeguard in the Criminal Code that protects Canadians’ ability to express good-faith opinions based on religious texts, it’s more important than ever that people speak up. Today’s strong turnout shows just how much folks in our region and beyond care about protecting freedom of religion and freedom of expression. A massive THANK YOU to everyone who came out to ask questions and share their concerns. Together, we will keep fighting to ensure these fundamental freedoms are upheld.

MPs from every party have each received hundreds, if not thousands, of messages from Canadians expressing concern about the removal of the good-faith religious exemption with Bill C-9. They raise serious questions about freedom of religion and expression that must be taken seriously, not rushed through Parliament.

Hunters, anglers, and outfitters are worried they could lose their rights, and in some cases their livelihoods, if the Seal River National Park Reserve in Manitoba moves ahead. And they’re right to be concerned. Today, the Environment Minister refused to guarantee that hunting and angling will remain permitted. Hunters and anglers deserve more than vague assurances.

My colleague, @daveeppckl, asked a good question today about the closure of agricultural research centres across Canada. The answer he received from the Liberal Agriculture Minister was mindboggling. What makes it more concerning is that the response was clearly prepared by several political staff before it was delivered and they thought it was a good response! In simple terms, the Minister’s response was this. Government investment in agricultural research is down. Private investment is also down. The government’s solution is to close some of the research stations that still exist, even though there is no clear plan to strengthen agricultural research in Canada. Here is why that is such a ridiculous answer. In 2024, the new Canadian Agricultural Partnership introduced a rule requiring federally supported research projects to include climate change mitigation. This change shifted research away from areas farmers have long prioritized, such as improving crop yields and developing varieties with stronger resistance to disease, drought, and excess moisture. Farmers and the agricultural organizations that represent them did not support this change. At the same time, the Liberals have added more regulatory hurdles to the approval process for new seed varieties and crop protection products. These rules make Canada a less attractive place for private companies to invest in research and development. The result is predictable. When it becomes harder to do research in Canada, companies choose to invest somewhere else. This is frustrating because agricultural research produces enormous returns. Canadian crop breeding programs have a benefit cost ratio of roughly 30:1. AAC Brandon CWRS wheat is a good example. It was developed through research conducted at several research stations across different growing regions. For the past decade it has been the most widely grown wheat variety in Canada. Research like this helps farmers grow more food, manage difficult weather conditions, and stay competitive globally. Governments can look for efficiencies in many places. Cutting back on agricultural research should not be one of them.
Dave Epp@daveeppckl

From Question to Confession Period. The Minister admitted: Ag R&D down 15% private research down 77% 30% fewer research firms. He says we can't stay this path. Agreed—but HIS Liberals have been driving for 11 years! Stop the tax hikes. Support our farmers.

Good news: Bill C-224 passed second reading and is now heading to the Health Committee. We’re one step closer to restoring Canadians’ choice and access to affordable natural health products!

BREAKING Bill C-224 passes second reading unanimously and has been referred to the Standing Committee on Health before it comes back to the House for third reading.
There are still many hurdles to jump over, but we’re making great progress. Let’s get this done!

Parliament wasn't designed to pass bills quickly. It was designed to consider them carefully. But this evening, the Liberals and Bloc voted to rush Bill C-9. We must take the time to get the law right and protect fundamental freedoms. That's exactly what Conservatives will continue to fight for.

This is damning. At a time when the world is demanding oil and natural gas from reliable countries, Canadian companies don't feel confident to move ahead, because of harmful policies imposed by Ottawa. Liberal ideology and bad decision-making led to reliance on dirty dictators. Now, we are totally unable to respond to the market. It's as though nothing has changed with this government.
