Here’s the hard truth about Cleveland sports that too many fans and executives refuse to acknowledge. It didn’t matter where LeBron signed, some of you were always going to call it a super team. I wanted Cleveland, but the Cavs stayed loyal to Koby Altman while Mike Ganlsey left to run the 76ers. Koby has a bizarre obsession with Evan Mobley, treating him like he’s Tim Duncan, and completely whiffed on a chance to trade him for Jaylen Brown. Ganlsey made that exact move, then added LeBron in his first offseason. Philly hasn’t won anything in decades. If LeBron wins there, it only strengthens his legacy. A lot of the hate has never really been about basketball. People hate the modern game, blame LeBron for everything they dislike about it, and act like player movement started with him. It didn’t. The real issue is that he’s the only player who has ever seriously threatened their precious GOAT, Michael Jordan. We’ve seen aging legends chase rings before, but we’ve never seen a Year 24 player who can still realistically be the best player on a championship team and win Finals MVP. As for Cleveland, this is the hard truth. We cling to players, executives, and ideas that make us feel comfortable instead of making the ruthless moves required to win championships. Too often, it’s about loyalty, potential, and sentiment instead of banners. Winning should be the only thing that matters, yet too often it feels like it’s everything but winning. The best fans in the world deserve so much better than that. And the saddest part? Some Cleveland fans spend more time defending Michael Jordan, the man who stood in the way of this city, than appreciating LeBron James, the man who came home, fulfilled his promise, and delivered Cleveland its first major championship in 52 years. To me, that says everything about the discourse surrounding LeBron.
