Noncompetitive writing If other writers’ excellence discourages you, the solution is not to stop reading and certainly not to stop writing. 1. Stop “writing” and spend your time on storytelling. 2. Don't try to “write well.” Write clearly. 3. No matter how well you write, someone, perhaps many, will write better. So what? 4. No matter how inadequate you feel, the writing you actually do is far superior to any of the writing you leave unwritten. 5. Your true voice consists of the language choices you make when you aren't thinking about language. No one else can write in your voice. You are irreplaceable.

In my humble opinion, Monday the 13th should be worse luck than Friday the 13th.

Hey, all. When Stormlight 5 is out and you've read it, remember to ask me what happened in my writing on July 18th. I wrote an important scene yesterday that I think might be worthy of a little extra special notation.

Everyone is free to write the book they wish existed. I celebrate that and I appreciate that. To those giving general advice to write shorter middle grade, I reply with the succinct advice to write fewer opinions. :-)
