I'm trying digital drawing for the very first time; there's a learning curve and I'm flatlining.... ... but I'm following some old advice from a therapist, to just *create something* 😭👍 (this is a scene from my upcoming audiobook sequel which takes place in the JW universe)

Wouldn't surprise me if that was true for South Semitic peoples like the Sabaeans, whose languages and cultures would have been distinct from those of Arabic-speakers who probably originated closer to the Levant.

If you're wondering why she has dark skin, I was inspired by the scholarship of Dr. Dana Reynolds-Marniche, who has argued that the original inhabitants of the Arabian peninsula would have been darker-skinned prior to absorbing waves of migration from further north.

@ActualCorn I thought medieval Europeans actually bathed more often than the popular stereotype assumes?

Her story involves both a search for ancient riches in the desert and a mission to rescue enslaved people from their slavers.

The inspiration comes in large part from a certain Robert E. Howard story about his Puritan hero Solomon Kane fighting Arab slavers in Africa, but I wanted to invert the races a bit by having an African heroine fight other Africans who had enslaved Arabs.

Finished drafting a new short story today. It's a sword-and-sorcery fantasy about an African adventurer giving up her quest for treasure in order to rescue some enslaved Arabs. I hope to have it reviewed and revised shortly.

@LionClanChief @frankonX_ FWIW, I did find the world-building in those novels blander than I had hoped. I didn't get a feel for the different distinctive cultures in a region supposedly based on ancient Nigeria.

@frankonX_ No offence to the author but, she didn’t do as much research into the folklore, myths and cultures. So I have a feeling the costumes won’t be as good but, I hope I’m proven wrong. We need more African fantasy and historical fiction adaptations.

Sometimes I wonder what actress would play her in the unlikely event my novella ever got adapted into a movie. I can't be the only author out there with such fantasies, right?

It's strange to me that Hollywood has not invested as much in updating animatronic tech as it has CGI. Imagine them making animatronic dinosaurs move and act to a degree that makes CGI dinosaurs unnecessary. Why haven't we gotten that?
