We have some good and bad news about Dragon Age The Veilguard… - Transmog is available at launch and won’t cost you any resources - The Mage alone seemingly has 117 different armor sets, 108 headpieces and 75 weapon skins, so expect something similar for other classes - Xenon and his Black Emporium (a special store from earlier games) are back, this seems to be the place where you can get gear you might have locked yourself out of getting because of the choices you make during the story - Classes won’t lock you in a certain combat role like in older games (so being a warrior doesn’t necessarily mean you are the tank for your party) - The skill tree will decide your play style as you craft different builds with the many skills that can be unlocked (active abilities, passive buffs, and bonuses) - Your main character Rook can also work towards a specialization through the skill tree, which unlocks passives and skills fit for certain play styles - Only one specialization can be active at any time, so for example, as a warrior you pick between focussing on heavy two-handed weapons or shield-throwing - There are ways to earn skill points outside the leveling system, but you can’t unlock all skills (even at max level) - The level cap in Dragon Age The Veilguard is level 50 - There are also skills and abilities outside the skill-tree progression - Challenges come in the form of Blighted Champions, which are optional bosses in the early parts of the game that unlock new parts of the map - Gear has a major impact on your build, there are 9 different equipment slots to fill - Vendors sell gear as well, but most of them are tied to one of the factions - Depending on your reputation with the different factions, you’ll have access to more or less of the vendor's wares - Gear needs to be leveled up at the Caretaker, who functions as a blacksmith and is found in the hub-area called the Lighthouse - You need to level up the Caretaker if you want to level up your gear, and to do that you’ll need to find/buy special items called mementos - Item rarity factors into how powerful gear is because each item has perks next to its base stats, with perks often locked until an item is leveled up in rarity - You can upgrade an item’s rarity by finding or buying a duplicate of the item you’ve already got, this then unlocks new perks on the item - Each item and active skill can receive an individual extra buff, like extra crit chance - Dragon Age The Veilguard is around 92 GB, so make sure you have enough free space on your platform of choice - Pre-load on Xbox is now available, while PS5 users need to wait until October 29th (and PC players can’t preload at all) - Console players get a 30 fps Quality Mode and 60 fps Performance Mode - Don’t rush when nearing the ending of the game, as you can’t continue playing after the story ends (meaning there is no post-campaign content like in God of War Ragnarok) - Instead, at the point of no return the game makes a custom save to go back to after the story is complete so you can spend more time doing side activities - In my interview with BioWare it became clear New Game Plus wasn’t being worked on right now as the studio is focussed on making every playthrough feel different #DragonAge #DragonAgeTheVeilguard
