The President’s fiscal year 2027 budget request proposes cuts to programs including $15.5 billion to State Department and international programs that have broad bipartisan support, eliminating Food for Peace and the McGovern-Dole Food for Education Program, $4.3 billion to global health programs, and a $4.9 billion cut to USDA that would drop the WIC cash-value benefit from $50 per month to roughly $10–$13. We are encouraged that members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have reaffirmed the importance of congressional oversight and the power of the purse.
